Hydrated Lime is an inorganic compound which finds application for clarifying raw sugarcane juice and for processing water in brewing & beverage industries. It has chemical formula Ca(OH)2 with molecular weight of 74.093 g/mol and density of 2.211 g/cm3. Also known as calcium hydroxide, it serves as flocculant for wastewater treatment and is required for removing cellulose hull of maize kernels. Hydrated Lime is soluble in water, glycerol, & acids and shows insolubility in alcohol. It appears as white colored odorless powder with melting point of 580 degrees Celsius. For making papadam, it is considered to be the perfect substitute for baking soda.
