Diethanolamine is an organic compound which is most commonly utilized as surfactant & corrosion inhibitor. It is known to have molecular formula C4H11NO2 with molar mass of 105.14 g/mol and density of 1.097 g/cm3. This compound appears as light yellow viscous liquid with ammonia-like odor. It also finds application for removing H2S from sour gas in oil refineries. It is known to be one of the common ingredients in various cosmetics & shampoos. Diethanolamine can be produced by reaction of ethylene oxide with aqueous ammonia followed by few more steps under controlled conditions. It is water soluble in nature and shows boiling point of about 271.1 degrees Celsius.
