Copper Sulphate is widely utilized as mordant in dyeing industry and for organic synthesis of various chemicals. It is known to have chemical formula CuSO4.5H2O with molecular weight of 249.685 g/mol. This compound is also used as fungicide & herbicide in agricultural industry in its pentahydrate form. It shows solubility in methanol & insolubility in ethanol with melting point of about 110 degrees Celsius. This compound can industrially be produced by treatment of copper with hot H2SO4 under controlled conditions. In medical industry, Copper Sulphate is required for pathological blood testing for detection of anemia.
