Calcium Acetate is a calcium salt of acetic acid with molecular formula C4H6CaO4 and molar mass of 158.17 g/mol. It is widely utilized as food additive with E number E263 as stabilizer & sequesterant. In pharmaceutical industry, this compound is used for treatment of hyperphosphatemia that may lead to bone related problems. It appears as white colored hygroscopic solid with slight acetic acid-like odor. Calcium Acetate is water soluble in nature and has melting point of about 160 degrees Celsius. It can industrially be produced by soaking calcium carbonate in vinegar.
