Copper Naphthenate can industrially be produced by reaction of naphthenic acid with copper (II) compounds under controlled conditions. It is most commonly used for preservation of woods from rot, decay, and termites. This compound appears as blue-green viscous liquid with density of about 1.055 g/cm3. It is also suitable to be used for preserving various other cellulosic compounds including textiles from fungi & insect attack. Copper Naphthenate is water insoluble in nature and has very low boiling point of less than 100 degrees Celsius. Having good anti-bacterial property, it also finds application as active ingredient & drying agent in horse hoof thrush treatments.
